Merger or No Merger; Verizon Will Win Big, Off-Brand Wireless
Operators Will Win a Little. Sprint, AT&T & T-Mobile Are All At-Risk

Ronkonkoma, NY, May 19, 2011 - Aperio CI today released the results of the largest consumer survey of wireless operators ever conducted in the US. This survey of 5,337 respondents across the United States revealed strong views about each of the major network operators:

  • Verizon is the clear winner overall, with highest positive views and lowest negative views.
  • T-Mobile is perceived as the lowest cost provider by a strong plurality of respondents.
  • AT&T wins the award for the high-cost provider, since it is perceived as the most expensive of the 4 major operators - certainly not the award they wanted.
  • Verizon clearly wins the network quality award.
  • AT&T was winning the award for Best Phones until Verizon started to sell the iPhone.
  • Sprint doesn’t win any awards.

When asked, “What comes to mind when you hear the name (Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon)?”, survey respondents answered in free-form and the results revealed the following:

  • Verizon: the positive responses are more than double the negative responses.
  • Sprint & AT&T: the negative responses are more than double the positive responses.
  • T-Mobile: The positive responses are slightly greater than the negative responses.

The survey also discovered that:

  • T-mobile customers love T-Mobile’s low prices, however…
  • T-mobile has the most volatile base as 49% of T-Mobile’s customers said they were likely to churn over the next year.
  • Nearly 25% of T-Mobile customers have a negative view of AT&T.
  • More than 25% of Verizon and T-Mobile customers have a negative view of Sprint.
  • Verizon definitely wins the quality award.
